Celebrating Reel Excellence

Whether measured by its continued quality, industry credibility or unyielding mission to recognize the work of African-Americans and those of African descent in the motion picture industry, the Black Reel Awards is the only award show that annually recognizes African-Americans and people of African descent in feature, independent and television film. The event raises money for the Foundation for the Advancement of African Americans in Film’s (FAAAF) two member program, Reel Kids and the Producer’s Institute.

The Black Reel Awards are annually held in February to provide an additional opportunity to spotlight African-American film achievement during the industry’s busiest and most profitable awards season. Since 2000, the Black Reel Awards have bestowed over 1,000 nominations and honored over 500 actors, filmmakers and films that continue to celebrate and salute the rich African-American cinematic heritage.

With the assistance of the Foundation and its growing list of corporate partners, The Black Reel Awards continues its mission to ensure that the “reel images” of people of color continue to expand in future generations.
